Lauritzen Gardens is the host for the Omaha Sister Cities Association Annual Japanese Ambience. Visitors are treated to a variety of traditional Japanese cultural experiences featuring: origami, calligraphy, chop sticks, traditional games and flying the Koi Nobori – fish kites.

This year will mark the tenth celebration of the construction of mini Mt. Fuji and the Sunpu Castle Gate.   Students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Shizuoka High School students attending Omaha schools and the OSCA Shizuoka committee work both days to bring Japanese culture to the citizens of Omaha.

Always a highlight and the closing performance at Japanese Ambience are the KOYKO TAIKO drummers, scheduled to play at 3.30pm both days.   Thunderous, dynamic and powerful…the sound of the drums resonates in the soul of both the performer and the audience. This group is a fabulous end to an incredible weekend centered on Japanese culture.
